Dr Belinda Thewes 

Belinda is an endorsed clinical psychologist, academic health psychologist and consultant psychologist with over 20 years experience helping adults deal with physical and mental health issues. 

She completed her post-graduate clinical psychology training at Sydney University in 2000. 

Belinda has a career-long interest in the interaction between the mind and body and has developed specialist knowledge in medical psychology over the past two decades. She has worked as a clinical psychologist in the Department of Medical Oncology, Prince of Wales Hospital in Sydney, and at Eurobodalla Cancer Services, Moruya.

Following her PhD she completed further post-doctoral training at the School of Psychology, University of Sydney and Department of Medical Psychology, Radboud University Medical Centre, in The Netherlands. 

She has a special interest in psychological issues facing women with breast cancer, having focussed both her masters and doctoral research on this topic. She is also interested in the development and application of online psychological interventions and telehealth. 

Prior to working in health-related areas she has worked for government agencies and community health organisations in community mental health and intellectual disability.  

Belinda’s treatment approach is tailored to her client’s need and goals. She takes a wholistic view of physical and mental health, is very behavioural and practical in her style. She will focus on identifying your goals and strengths, and help you develop strategies to live the best life possible in the face of health challenges.  

Her approach is informed by cognitive behaviour therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), meta-cognitive therapy, mindfulness and compassion-focussed therapies. 

Belinda also has a background in research and education and has published many research papers on topics related to the psychological aspects of cancer and online interventions See PUBLICATIONS. She regularly speaks at conferences and remains actively involved in research activities related to cancer in Australia and Europe. 

Belinda has lived in the Eurobodalla since 2004. She loves the NSW South Coast its nature, lifestyle, and its dynamic and resilient community. When not at work she is a foodie, gardener, dog-walker and yoga-enthusiast.
